How to Log Waste When Drawing From Two Containers
For example: 6 mls of euthanasia solution is drawn up, the current open container contains 3 mls, an additional 3 mls is drawn from a second container. When using the drug, only 5 mls is used, and 1 ml is not used (wasted).
- If the log has already been created by opening the second container within the log entry window and entering the amounts accordingly (as shown above), but there is now waste to be accounted for, follow these steps:
- The log will need to be corrected under the reconcile tab
- Change the amount within the second container to “2 mls” (or whatever the difference is for waste)
- Add a comment explaining “adjusting quantity used to account for 1 ml waste”.
- The log will need to be corrected under the reconcile tab
- If the log HAS NOT been created yet
- Create initial log, put 3 for the original container, and 2 for the second container, and skip the reconcile step
Lastly,
- Under Manage Inventory, select "Record Waste", and select the second container used and input the amount that was wasted
- Add a comment that explains the adjustment is for waste and reference the patient name and number
(This last step will need to be done whether the log was already created or not)
- The log book will then show the initial entry from the two containers and the waste for that particular patient as well
** This is only for logging waste when numerous containers are used on the same patient and there is waste**
