VetSnap offers two options to help you manage incorrect or unused log entries: Ignore and Waste Log. Each serves a distinct purpose and affects your controlled drug records differently.
When should I use “Ignore”?
Use the Ignore option when a log entry was made in error and needs to be removed from the record.
Ignoring a log:
Returns the logged amount automatically to the container used
Grays out the entry in the logbook
Functions like a delete, but leaves the record of the entry
Common reasons to Ignore a log entry:
Wrong drug was selected
Prescription was logged but never picked up
Entry was made under the wrong patient
Duplicate log entry was created
Note: Once ignored, an entry cannot be undone. If the entry was valid, you’ll need to recreate it manually.
How to Ignore a log entry:
From the Reconcile screen, click View Details on the entry
Scroll to the bottom of the window
Enter a comment explaining why the log is being ignored
Sign and enter your PIN
Click Ignore to confirm
When should I use “Waste Log”?
Use Waste Log when none of the medication was administered and the drug was fully discarded. This keeps your logbook accurate while documenting required waste information. It will keep the quantity out of the container.
Common reasons to Waste a log entry:
- The dose was removed from the container but disposed of.
- A dose was drawn up but the procedure was canceled
If the entry was already logged:
Go to the Reconcile tab
Locate the entry in the Pending section
Select the entry and click Waste Log
The entry will be converted to a waste record in your logbook
If the waste has not yet been logged:
Create a new log entry
Enter the full amount withdrawn in the Quantity field
Save the entry
Go to the Pending section of the Reconcile tab
Select the entry and click Waste Log to convert it
Note: Once a log is wasted, it cannot be undone. If the entry was valid, you’ll need to remove the log from the logbook and recreate it.
